I was inspired to pursue this project from looking at architectural minimalist images via Instagram. This inspired me to look for locations for similar images in my local area.
I was soon drawn to new-build industrial estates (and some older ones) around the Eagle Farm and Hendra areas not far from my home. These were new fresh buildings, yet to be obscured by well established trees and gardens, and yet to be cluttered by storage overflow.
I enjoyed the stark, often two-dimensional, backgrounds that are punctuated by splashes of colour from safety bollards and fire hydrants. The fire exits, in particular, caught my attention - as they reinforced what we have learnt as a language around colour, such as the yellow "keep clear" posts and red fire hydrants. These little openings on big walls are surrounded by dapples of safety colours, almost as if they want to attract us to the door, but ultimately hope we never need to use it.
Through this project, I hope to inspire viewers to see the beauty in unexpected places, and to appreciate the simple geometry that surrounds us all.
