Goblyn - Light Painting

Artists Statement

Rather than using light simply to illuminate a subject, this project treats light as an active participant in the creative process. During long exposures, moving light sources become visible within the photograph, creating forms that surround, reveal and sometimes conceal the subject. The result is a portrait shaped as much by time and movement as by the person in front of the camera.

Created in collaboration with Goblyn, the series embraces experimentation and spontaneity. Each image is the product of performance, timing and trust, where neither the subject nor the photographer can predict the exact outcome until the exposure is complete. Every frame becomes a unique record of a shared creative moment.

The intention was never to demonstrate a photographic technique. Instead, light painting became a way of expressing character, emotion and imagination in a way that conventional portraiture cannot. The light leaves traces of movement, energy and atmosphere, transforming the portrait into something that exists between reality and fantasy.

As with much of my work, these images ask the viewer to look beyond appearance. Rather than simply asking What does this person look like?, they invite a deeper question: What does this person feel like when imagination and light become part of the portrait?
