Individuals in the Heard - Maude Gallery (BCG group exhibition)

'Every day I join the urban herd as it snakes its way through the Brisbane CBD. I join the faceless masses as they weave in and out between the man-made barriers of the constructed world. And sometimes I stop, just for a moment, to catch a glimpse of the individuals in the herd.’

I work in the Brisbane CBD and, after a recent back injury, was prescribed with as much walking as possible. This gave me cause to cover a lot of urban kilometres, to really explore the centre of the city, and start to feel like I was in some way part of it. 

In this set of images, I have tried to observe how people are constrained and directed by their built environment and have explored several techniques to represent what I see when I observe the daily migrations of the 'urban herd'.

I have been fascinated by the patterns of the herd and the notion that when you stop to look, you will not only notice these patterns, but you will also start to see the individuals in the herd. These may be the people who stay still for a moment, or who swim against the flow, or perhaps they might just catch your eye.
