Artists Statement

This project explores portraiture as an encounter rather than a record.

This series is less concerned with presenting a fixed version of the subject and more interested in the subtle shifts that occur when someone allows themselves to be seen. Expression, posture, light and stillness all become part of the image, creating portraits that suggest confidence, vulnerability, contemplation and presence without reducing the subject to any single interpretation.

Working collaboratively with Jordan, the photographs emerged through trust, observation and quiet direction. Rather than forcing a performance for the camera, the aim was to create space for something more natural to surface—moments where personality, mood and emotion could sit within the frame.

As with much of my work, this series asks a different question from traditional portraiture. Rather than simply asking, What does this person look like?, it asks, What does this person feel like?

The resulting images invite the viewer to pause, look closely and form their own sense of the person within the photograph.
